Library Etiquette
Following simple rules makes everyone's visit to the library more enjoyable and more productive. Here are the basic rules for the library:
Checkout
Below you will find the policies regarding checking-out library materials:
Computer Use
Currently, there are 9 computers for student use in the media center. The following are the policies regarding student use of media center computers:
Everyone using the Internet should be familiar with U.S. Copyright Law.
Printing Services
Black & White Printing: $.10 per page
Color Printing: $.25 per page
Following simple rules makes everyone's visit to the library more enjoyable and more productive. Here are the basic rules for the library:
- Students entering the media center during class time must have an official hall pass.
- Be QUIET.
- No food, gum, or drinks (unless in a sealed container).
- No sitting on the floor.
- Push in your chairs and pick up after yourself before you leave.
- No talking on cell phones.
Checkout
Below you will find the policies regarding checking-out library materials:
- Students must have their I.D.s to check out materials.
- Books are checked out for 14 days.
- Textbooks are to be returned by end of academic year.
- Students may check out a maximum of 10 books, no more than two books on the same topic.
- The fine for overdue books is 5 cents per day per book.
- A fine of 50 cents is applied for each missing date due card.
- Reference materials may be checked out with librarian’s permission.
Computer Use

- When using the Internet, the following policies and restrictions apply to all students:
- No sexually explicit, obscene or otherwise inappropriate web-sites.
- No gaming sites.
- No unsafe sites.
- You must have your student ID card in order to use a Library computer (if you do not, simply notify the librarian)
- Desktop settings are NOT TO BE CHANGED! This is not your personal computer. Changing settings is considered vandalism.

There are two basic classification systems used by American libraries-- the Library of Congress Classification System and the Dewey Decimal Classification System. COHS Library, like most public and school libraries, uses the Dewey Decimal System, in which only the nonfiction materials are assigned numbers. Fiction is filed alphabetically. What is Destiny?Nope, it isn't fate or your future- at least, not in library terms! Destiny is the computerized system COHS Library uses to check books in and out and locate materials in the library.
Every book cataloged for COHS Library is in the automated system. When you search using Destiny, your results will list all the books in the system that you are searching for and will even tell you if what you need is available for check-out. |
